Mountain Travel Sobek, the Emeryville-based adventure travel company, has announced its picks for the best short trips this spring. They define a short trip as nine days or less — including travel time. Whether you’re on a five-day rafting trip through Utah’s Cataract Canyon or exploring the cultural wonders of Havana, Cuba in six days, these eight adventures are sure to inspire.

And the folks behind MT Sobek aren’t the only travel experts who think so. Their top choice, a six-day adventure through Grand Canyon National Park, also made Travel + Leisure’s list for the 50 best places to travel in 2019. America’s famous geologic marvel is celebrating its centennial as a National Park this year with a series of talks, concerts and special exhibitions throughout the year. MT Sobek’s four-day itinerary includes a stay at Phantom Ranch, the only lodging in the center of the park.

Both MT Sobek and Travel + Leisure selected Portugal for its scenic hikes through castle-dotted countrysides and old world villages. Havana, Cuba, which made MT Sobek’s list, as well as Indagare’s picks for the top new destinations of 2019, for its immersive walking tours of Old Havana. According to the former’s website, you can journey to Las Terrazas, where you’ll be immersed in a vibrant community of artists and farmers.

Here are MT Sobek’s picks for the best short-trip adventures of 2019:

  1. Grand Canyon National Park
  2. Cataract Canyon, Utah
  3. Havana, Cuba
  4. Salt Flats, Bolivia
  5. The Cotswolds, England
  6. Northern Iceland
  7. Mont Blanc, France and Switzerland
  8. Portugal
