A search is under way for a Victorian camper who has not contacted his family in two days.

Bruce Ninnis, 55, left his Oakleigh South home for a solo camping trip in the Woods Point area near the Goulburn River in the state's north-east on Monday.

Bruce Ninnis has not contacted his family since leaving for a solo camping trip.

Mr Ninnis was supposed to contact his family daily, but they have not heard from him since he left for his trip, which police say is out of character.

He is described as 180 centimetres tall with short fair hair and was last seen wearing a blue and white striped t-shirt and khaki shorts.

He is believed to be driving a silver 2007 Land Rover Discovery, registered ULR 164.

Anyone who sees Mr Ninnis or his vehicle is urged to contact Camberwell Police Station on 9882 0688.
